"Encourage one another and build each other up."
1 Thessalonians 5:11
Friends are an important part of our lives. Its important to have friends that enrich our lives and point us in the direction we want to go. Friends are a blessing and part of God's love and plan for you. Through your friends God can teach, train, and grow you into a person after God's own heart. There are three kinds of people in life: those who pull you down, those who pull you along, and those who pull you up. Obviously people who pull you down are bad news. Mom always said "bad company corrupts good character" (1 Cor 15:33). So make sure your friends, close friends, and best friends are Christians who will pull you upward towards Christlikeness.
Start with yourself: Nurture the qualities in you that you desire in your friends. Be the kind of person who pulls other up toward the things of God. Set the highest standards possible for your self! Settle it now: Decide now that its better to have no friends at the moment than to have the wrong friends.
Look for friends who:
-pursue God
-are loyal
-will hold you accountable
-will encourage you
-will pray for you
Remember, you have the best friend you'll ever have in Jesus! With Jesus as your friend, you're completely and totally loved. He's "a friend who sticks closer than a brother" (Prov 18:24). While other friends may come and go, Jesus will be with you, never leaving your side and always encouraging you.
